Water line extension leaves high mark on Econ Dev Week

It is National Economic Development Week! This event is supported by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and the Economic Development Council of Colorado (EDCC).  Economic Development Week is a great opportunity to raise awareness of economic development and how economic developers support businesses and communities. On May 10, 2023, the Elbert County Board of County Commissioners accepted a proclamation recognizing this celebration.

In Elbert County, a new water line serviced by Summit Metro District is being constructed in the Economic Development Zone (EDZ) on SH86 two miles west of the Town of Kiowa. This critical infrastructure will support new commercial/industrial development in Elbert County and is being installed by the private sector.

One of the primary new businesses being developed in Elbert County and one that will be tapping into this new water line, is BurnCo.  BurnCo is no small company, a leader in the building materials sector with over 70 locations in Canada and the U.S.  The concrete batch plant in Kiowa is slated to open this summer.
